Starting with a healthy weight before pregnancy also gives the best odds of a healthy and safe gestational period (pregnancy). Being a healthy weight doesn’t just apply to the overweight, being underweight also has significant negative affects to conception chances.

PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovaries Syndrome)

Studies have shown 3 hours of aerobic exercise per week for 12 weeks resulted in improved insulin sensitivity, cholesterol and visceral fat levels. Regular exercise also improves inflammation markers which is hugely important and chronic inflammation is linked to insulin resistance. When trying to conceive a weight loss of 5-10% can significantly improve the chances of conceiving through improving hormonal imbalances and therefore increasing the chance of ovulation. Exercise also has been proven to reduce stress. Stress increases cortisol production which may trigger an increase in insulin production. Therefore, by reducing the stress you achieve a positive effect on lowering your insulin and feel good at the same time.

PRE NATAL (PREGNANCY)

Our main focus is guiding our mama’s through a safe and healthy pregnancy. We use an individual approach which has been designed to prepare the body for birth and beyond through a strong foundation. A strong foundation through exercise has been shown to prevent pregnancy induced aches & pains, improves the quality of sleep as well as reducing stress and anxiety. It ha also been linked to reducing likelihood of post-natal depression.

The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, 2002 recommend “In the absence of either medical or obstetric complications, 30 minutes or more of moderate exercise a day on most, if not all, days of the week is RECOMMENDED for pregnant woman”

Recent studies have also shown that pre-natal exercise may help and/or prevent gestational diabetes. Some other amazing reasons why pre-natal exercise is so important is studies have shown you are 75% less likely to have a forceps delivery and 55% less likely to have an episiotomy as a result of regular exercise.

Helping to best prepare the body for the demands of labor, teaching tools for easier birthing and building a foundation which will help the body to bounce back after delivery. Regular exercise has been proven to decrease labor length and who doesn’t want that!

POST NATAL (After Baby)

 

After 9 months of creating life and bringing a little human into the world the body has gone through an amazing amount of changes and demands. This next phase may involve breastfeeding which will bring on a whole new set of demands for the body. Even without breast feeding the new demands to the body will have you tired, sleep deprived, perhaps stressed and maybe even down. These are all completely normal and you ARE NOT ALONE!

Once you are cleared to return to exercise which is generally 6 weeks after a vaginal birth and 12 weeks after a C-section Fit Mama Co will work on preparing your body for the demands of motherhood, restoring your core strength and the pelvic floor. Returning to safe and healthy exercise has been shown to improve mood, reduce stress and anxiety. It has also been shown to reduce the likelihood of post-natal depression or improve the effects.

Our training is designed to focus on rebuilding your foundation and the moving from there to increase to your strength, cardiovascular health to allow you to run around after your little ones and create a mama bod that you love!
